How to Survive 4bia

***Post may contain spoiler!***

4bia is made up of 4 different supernatural/horror themed short films as the title suggests(or you can't even catch it in the first place).

List of stories in order of appearance:

1. Happiness(English)/Loneliness(Thai)
2. Tit for Tat(English)/Deadly Charm(Thai)
3. In the Middle
4. Last Fright(pun intended?)

Loneliness/Happiness

Plot: A girl, stucked at home due to her broken leg. Thus, she is lonely. Therefore, she finds companionship through text messaging people with her cellphone. Eventually, she went on happily and unsuspectingly messaging this random, unknown and mysterious guy. However, what she finds delight in soon turns out to be her worst nightmare.

Review: I don't know why it happened but, there are certain scenes which made the audience burst out in laughter although I don't think its meant to be a joke. Cheap yet effective strategies were used in this segment to scare the shit outta you. There wasn't much dialouge in this one but the actress's really so good that you won't get lost in the plot.

First Fright: Girl MMS unknown guy her picture, guy MMS back exactly the same one stating that he's in it too. However, girl could only see herself in the picture. Upon a second closer inspection, there is, indeed someone next to her...

Last Shock: When riddle boy over at the other end of the phone makes his GRAND APPEARANCE. I didn't see this one coming at all and it's probably the one which will make you scream the very first time of watching 4bia. The smart ass thing about this shock is that it sets the mood for the rest of your voyage through this roller-coaster ride.

Tit for Tat/Deadly Charm

Plot: A bunch of stuck-up bastards beating up a school nerd. School nerd retaliate with black magick. Eventaully, almost everyone end up dying in freak accidents.

Review: This one, spams cheap and horrible CG effects throughout the storyline. It made the effects in "Money No Enough 2" look darn good. Ironically, "Tit for Tat" is the one which made me wet my pants. This one is also the perfect harmony between "Body #19" and "Shutter". Much gore was in it, yet it hasn't forget the freak factor of a traditional horror film.

However, some people call it a cheap rip-off of the Final Destination Triology.

First Fright: The return of the vengeful spirit of the school nerd.

Last Shock: At the end of the story, the UFP(unidentified flying paper) will be revealed. If you wanna avoid this cheap shock, just cover your ears. Sadly, I didn't. That's why I got so freaked out to the extent that Keng Boon almost lost his right arm. ^^

In the Middle

Plot: Four guys went on a kayaking trip. The eve of their kayaking activity, these four dudes joke about what they are gonna do if anyone of them end up dead in this trip. Well, I think you can guess what goes on next.

"In the Middle" is a sheer mixture of horror meets comedy. Throughout this one, ye'd be laughing one second and screaming your lungs out the next. Okay, maybe not the lungs part cause this story isn't that freaky when you give it a second thought. At least, nothing freaked me out during this part. To be darn frank with you, I thought I had the all-seeing-eye when I was watching this part cause the ending's too darn predictable.

First FrightLaugh: At the begining of the show.

Last ShockLaugh: All the way to the ending.

Last Fright

Plot: Oh ho, this story is freaking easy to summarize. Wife versus mistress, fullstop. Except except, wife is firstly, a royalty. Then, a corpse.

Review: Although it has often been said that "Last Fright" was suppose to be the scariest of all four, but I beg to differ. It was much scarier than "In the Middle" but not as horrifying as "Tit for Tat". Still, better than "Loneliness" in terms of freak factor. It's a kinda old style horror flick with a conservative plot.

First Fright: The first fright in Last Fright is defeinitely, when Your Highness made her first close-up on screen... as a lving human being.

Boo! Okay, fine. Let's get serious this time.

It's when she had her allergy attack acting up.

Trust me, she's ain't dead yet in this screenshot.

Last Shock: She's already a classic horror figure during her life time, how do you think she'd be scoring as one when she's dead? Then again, if you've got emetophobia, I strongly encourage you to avoid all scenes which she'll appear when she's dead. You won't like it when you see it.

Final Conclusion

If you don't feel like reading on, just take note of this: Go watch this damn show, it's bloody nice!

And if you can still read on...

Initially, I thought I was either gonna go through yet another gorily bloody "Body #19" or some "Alone" that will eventually end with something tear-dropping. Hell, I was wrong. "4bia" ain't all of that. However, it's all of those.

In other words, it's a perfect combo of all the recent Thai horror hit you've been watching.

Overall, it should have gotten an 8.5 over 10 if not for the cheap CG effects in "Tit for Tat". These people should learn to leave getting invloved with CG to the Hollywood instead.

Although this whole film is supposed to be a supernaturally-themed horror flick but, much laughter was heard in most part of it. And yes, certain scenes was worth laughing at.

In conclusion; darn, the Thais did it again, 8/10.
